What is an HMO? Print E-mail
HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization. Medicare pays the HMO's monthly fee to take care of all or some of your medical needs. Some HMO's pay also for prescription drugs. In order for your supplier or doctor to get reimbursed from your HMO, they have to be providers for your HMO and accept their payment schedule. Most HMOs deal only with local suppliers.
